Montblanc L 139 14C Full Flex Nib. Listing is for JUST the nib by itself.
The writing sample was made using THIS L139 nib for sale. This FANTASTIC rare Nib fits an L139 fountain pen. 9 = size 9 HUGE nib.
It is VERY rare to find one of these original nibs so clean and untouched. Zero cracks, splits or repairs etc.
It has PERFECT original Iridium Tines Tips. Good to last several more lifetimes. The 3 tone Rhodium plating (silver colour) is still great. This nib has NEVER been abused. Its tines are straight as when new. Zero kinks or bend etc. This nib is 100% never restored original.
You would struggle to EVER find one so clean again. Once in a lifetime opportunity to upgrade your 139 steel or Palladium nib or damaged 14C nib with this SuperStar writer.
139's with the Steel nibs have a bad habit of popping their Iridium Tips due to metal corrosion at the join. Indeed Steel Nibs suffer corrosion generally especially where the nib enters the front section.
Palladium dulls and can not be polished as it is silver in colour and the Gold Plate wears of the panel details when polishing. So the BEST nibs are the 14C 250 nib and the 14C L139 nibs. 14C nibs are beyond question superior. So a complete 139 pen with a broken nib is worth how much?1000 to 1500gbp at most. Then even after all that there is still no guarantee your pens nib will write creative or be flexible etc.... Like this nib for sale.
So how much is this 14C L139 flex Nib really worth? 1000gbp is a bargain truth be told! This nib will add its own value and more to any L139 pen. That doesn't even include the JOY you will have when writing with this nib. Find me another 14C L139 nib this good... The Nib itself is a phenomenal writer full of personality. Writes with a Fine to Medium Fine line that has Fine line side stroke at normal pressure. However this Nib really comes alive the moment you exercise its wonderful flexibility. It can flex from Fine all the way to Triple Broad on the down stroke when varying levels of pressure is applied. The flex is also quite user friendly in that it is not soft, loose or twitchy. Never flexes by itself only upon user command. A Nib for the writing connoisseur...... This chap is worth breaking the bank for. A brief history of the MB 139 and its unique Nib evolution.... 1st launched in 1938/39 the model L139 was Montblanc's top of the line model. The father of the 149. Those true 1st issue 1938-39 models came with a number 250 14C nib however those were only fitted for less than a year to pre order models and using up some 129 nibs. The German Military Government in charge at the time banned the manufacture of ALL Gold items for non military purpose in 1938.
So once Montblanc used up the few 14C 250 nibs they already had in stock they were then forced to make new nibs using the inferior nib material Palladium from 1939-40 however within a year even Palladium was banned and Montblanc were forced to make nibs from the still even further inferior for nib material, Steel. 1940-44 = Steel 250 nibs. Once the war ended Montblanc was given Gold by the British Military High Command that controlled Hamburg in an effort to get business up and running again. A VERY unique story but 100% true. So by as early as 1945-46 Montblanc was fully able to manufacture 14C Gold nibs again. These 1st issue nibs were stamped L139 rather than the previous era's 250 stamp. They also have a unique Shaded encircled (M) centre nib. By 1952 the encircled (M) was no longer shaded and the L was removed from the imprint.
Those 139 continued in production up to the mid 1950s along side the 149. (The L might have been removed from the pens Blind Cap tail end L 139 imprint as early as 1948-50 but the nibs by 1952 for certain).
