She is about 3 1/4 inches tall at the curve of her neck. She is a portrait model of "Misty of Chincoteague, " the real pony from Marguerite Henry's book of the same name. The book was illustrated by Wesley Dennis and released in 1947, and details the story of the Beebe family and their efforts to raise a filly born to a wild horse on Assateague Island. This porcelain pony is closely modeled on Wesley Dennis's illustrations of the real life Misty. Hagen Renaker's model number for the pony is #A 3038, and the stool is #A 3038(a). I was told when I bought it that this particular model was previously owned by sculptor Maureen Love and given to a friend of hers. I have never been able to document that, so at this point it remains a nice story. She is, however, an early model as her stool is glued to the model and she stands beautifully, which not all of them do.
